“Nickname” 指“绰号 / 昵称”，通常是非正式的名字，用来表示亲昵、特征、习惯，或在网络上作为用户名使用。（也可作动词，表示“给……起外号”。）

“Nickname” 来自中古英语 ekename，其中 eke 有“额外的、再加的”之意，name 是“名字”。后来因为误分词（把 an ekename 误听成 a nekename），逐渐演变为今天的 nickname。
