（航空用语）在某条跑道、滑行道或指定等待点之前停住并等待，未经进一步许可不得越过该位置。常见于空管指令：“Hold short of …”（在……前等待）。
也可泛指“不要达到/越过某个界限”（如 hold short of doing sth 表示“克制不去做某事”）。

The tower instructed the aircraft to hold short of the active runway until the landing traffic cleared.
塔台指示该飞机在正在使用的跑道前等待，直到落地的航班通过并清空跑道。
hold 源自古英语 healdan，有“握住、保持、停住”的含义；short 在这里表示“未到达（某处）/在……之前”。合起来 hold short (of) 就是“在目标点之前停住，不要越过”。
